Lajos' father was János Körtvélyesi and his mother was Rozália Egyed.  His paternal grandparents were József Körtvélesi and Erzsébet Tóth. He had three brothers and a sister, named János, Dénes, Lajos and Rozália.  He was the second oldest of the five children.
