István was born in December 1755 in Sajtoskál Sopron vm and his baptism took place there on December 12th, 1755.1 2  István's father was Benedek Nagy and his mother was Erzsébet Márffy.  His paternal grandparents were Mihály Nagy and Judit Nádasdy. He had eight brothers named Pál, Ádám, József, Mátyás, Antal, Zsigmond, Ignác and Antal. He had a half-brother and three half-sisters, named Lajos, Julianna, Mária and Anna.  He died in Berény.1
