Martha was born in 1852.  Martha's father was George Groom and her mother was Eleanor Turner. She had six brothers and four sisters, named James, Isaac, Miles, Elijah, Isaac, George, Eliza, Fanny, Maria and Charlotte.  She was the youngest of the eleven children.
