George was born on April 10th, 1850 in Burnham, County of Norfolk, England.1   George's father was George Groom and his mother was Eleanor Turner. He had five brothers and five sisters, named James, Isaac, Miles, Elijah, Isaac, Eliza, Fanny, Maria, Charlotte and Martha.  He was the second youngest of the eleven children.  He died  due to phthisis (caused by dust on the lungs) at the age of 48 on October 8th, 1898.
