This book was given to my Grandmother from her sister, Bertha Kepl (nee Schlievert) on her 27th birthday. All birth and death dates were hand written by my Grandmother, after her death the entries were written by my Father. This book is now in my possession.
    
    BIOGRAPHY: **Taken from "Our Family" compiled in 1981 by Carroll BAIRD (neeRUMPEL)** Carroll Joanne RUMPEL, second daughter of Ed and Edna RUMPEL; grew up and attended school in the Village of Edenwold. Carroll was a member of the Edenwold Baptist Church where she and her older sister, Marlene, sang in the choir. They often paired together for the Sunday morning special duet number. Both Marlene and Carroll enjoyed music and their parents saw to it that they took piano lessons for a number of years. Marlene turned out to be the more accomplished pianist. Carroll would sing a lot of solo numbers with Marlene playing the piano. On the farm the family kept a small herd of cows, there was pasture land with a barn and buildings for the chickens directly accross the road from the house. Carroll helped with the milking and small farm chores. In 1952 Edna started delivering milk to the residents of Edenwold, they used a 1934 Ford car with the back seat out. Every morning before school Marlene and Carroll would have to deliver milk to customers (Edna did the driving) and quite often they would just make it to school as the last bell was ringing. Edna continued this business for about 5 years. In 1959, Carroll left home and ventured off to the city of Regina and attended Technical School and later worked as a secretary at Great-WestLife Assurance Co. where she worked until 1973. In 1959, Carroll met her future husband, Don BAIRD, who had also moved to Regina from his home town of Penzance Saskatchewan looking for employment. Carroll and Don were married in Regina in 1962. In 1967, they purchased their first home and had a son, Bradley. Carroll and Don were involved in various community work. Carroll served as Secretary for the Uplands Community Association for two years and then secretary for the Recreation Board of North Regina for two years. Don was an active member of the Regina Maple Leaf Lions Club. In December 1973, Don accepted a new position with his company located in Calgary, Alberta. This meant they had to leave their first home, both families and moving to a city where they hardly knew anyone. Carroll again took an active interest in the school , doing volunteer work. She was also the secretary for the Calgary Oakridge Communtiy Association. In May 1976, Don accepted a managerial position with a company branch in Edmonton, Alberta, which meant another short move north. They bought their home in a suburb of Edmonton, St. Albert because of the small town feeling, at the time the population was about 30,000. In 1972, Carroll completed a Family Tree Book for Don's family and since then always wanted to do one on her (our) family. With the Family Reunion planned for the summer of 1980 the timing was right and as a result the Book was put together. Carroll sincerely hopes that you, your children and their children will enjoy the Book as much as she has.
