Walter was born in 1879 in Salford, Lancashire, UK.1   Walter's father was John MARSLAND and his mother is Jane A BRADSHAW.  His paternal grandfather is James MARSLAND and his paternal grandmother was Charlotte HULME. He had two brothers and two sisters, named James, John Alfred, Ellen Ann and Amy.  He is the youngest of the five children.
