John was born in 1843 in Sale, Cheshire, UK.1   John's father is James MARSLAND and his mother was Charlotte HULME.  His paternal grandfather is Edward MARSLAND; his maternal grandparents are James HULME and Mary (UNKNOWN). He had seven brothers and six sisters, named Walter, George, James, Thomas, Edward, Joseph, Alfred, Charlotte, Ellen, Elizabeth, Emma, Martha and Ann.  He was the second oldest of the fourteen children.  He died at the age of 50 in 1893 in Salford, Lancashire, UK.
