Joseph was born in 1858 in Salford, Lancashire, UK.1   Joseph's father is James MARSLAND and his mother was Charlotte HULME.  His paternal grandfather is Edward MARSLAND; his maternal grandparents are James HULME and Mary (UNKNOWN). He had seven brothers and six sisters, named Walter, John, George, James, Thomas, Edward, Alfred, Charlotte, Ellen, Elizabeth, Emma, Martha and Ann.  He was the twelfth oldest of the fourteen children.  He died at the age of 42 in 1900 in Salford, Lancashire, UK.2
