Bertha was born in 1886 in Stockport, Cheshire, UK.  Bertha's father was John KITCHEN and her mother was Charlotte MARSLAND.  Her maternal grandfather is James MARSLAND and her maternal grandmother was Charlotte HULME. She had two brothers and four sisters, named Norman, James Albert, Beatrice Alice, Eva, Pauline and Elizabeth.  She is the fifth oldest of the seven children.
