James I Stewart

James I was born in Dunfermine, Fife, Scotland.¹ James I's father was James Stewart and his mother was Egidia De Burgh. His paternal grandparents were Alexander Stewart and Jean Macrory; his maternal grandparents were Walter De Burgh and Avelina Fitzjohn. He had a brother and a sister, named Walter and Egidia. He died in Perth, Tayside, Scotland.¹

  James I, King of Scots (1406-1437)
  
  ose to James and took him to France. James was present at the wedding of Henry V and Katherine of Valois.
  
  James wrote The King's Quhair (book), a long love poem about his future wife Joan Beaufort, while in captivity in England. It clearly shows the influence of Geoffrey Chaucer's work.
  
  In addition to writing poetry, James had a good singing voice and could play the harp.
  
  James was good at wrestling, as well as "shote" putting and throwing the hammer.
  
  The family of James's future wife, Joan Beaufort, demanded that the Scots pay 4,000 pounds for his maintenance during the 18 years the English held him captive.
