Faten Ibrahim was born in May 1951 in Khartoum.  Faten Ibrahim's father was Ibrahim Mohamed Aref and her mother was Rawhaya Abbas Sabri.  Her paternal grandparents were Mohamed Aref and Husna Atabani Suwar Al Dahab; her maternal grandparents were Abbas  Mohamed Ismail Sabri and Wageedah Disouki. She has three brothers and a sister, named Adel Ibrahim, Emad Ibrahim Mohamed, Amr  and Olfat Ibrahim.  She is the second oldest of the five children.
