Edward was born in 1887 in Gympie, Queensland.  Edward's father was Charles Beevor Steele and his mother was Mary Frances Tymons.  His paternal grandparents were John Thomas Charles Thompson Steele and Emma Marietta Daveney; his maternal grandparents were James Blood Tymons and Bessie Marie Power. He had six brothers and a sister, named Frederick, Charles, William, Owen, Roland, Eric and Phyllis.

‌Edward and Auguste were married.  They had a son and five daughters, named Charles, Joyce, Dawn, Phyllis, Cecily and Alwine.
