Friedrich was born in 1727. Friedrich's father was Wilhelm Hesse-Philippsthal-Barchfeld, von and his mother was Charlotte Wilhelmine Anhalt-Bernburg-Hoym, von. His paternal grandparents were Philipp Hesse-Philippsthal, Von and Katharine Amalie Solms-Laubach, von; his maternal grandparents were Lebrecht Anhalt-Bernburg-Hoym, von and Eberhardine Weede, von. He had eight brothers and six sisters, named Wilhelm, Philipp, Karl Wilhelm, Georg, Christian, Ludwig Friedrich, Adolf, August, Charlotte, Johanna Charlotte, Karoline, Ulrike Eleonore, Anne and Dorothea. He was the third oldest of the fifteen children. He died at the age of 50 in 1777.
