Diniz was born in 1538. Diniz's father was Alfonso I. de Lencastre Castro de Portugal, de and his mother is Jeronyma Noronha, de. His paternal grandparents were Diniz Portugal-Castro, de and Brites Castro-Osorio, de. He had a brother and a sister, named Diogo and Filippa. He died at the age of 60 in 1598 in Lisbon.
