Friedrich was born in 1780. Friedrich's father was Friedrich Erdmann Anhalt-Köthen, von and his mother was Luise Stolberg-Wernigerode, von. His paternal grandparents were August Anhalt-Köthen, von and Emilie Promnitz, von. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Ernst, Friedrich Ferdinand, Georg, Heinrich, Ludwig, Anna, Benedikte and Christiane. He was the second youngest of the nine children. He died at the age of 33 in 1813.
