Shyamala Bai's father was Chintaiah Naidu Vallabha and her mother was Rukminamma (Rukku Bai) (Manakonda) Vallabha.  Her paternal grandparents were Sri Vallabha Veera Venkata  Jeer Naidu Vallabha and Rangamma (Venkatamma) Vallabha. She had six brothers and a sister, named Vasudeva Rao, Madhava Rao, Ramakrishna Rao, Nagula Kaka, Keshava Rao, Namdeva Rao and Hemalatha Bai.  She is the fifth oldest of the eight children.
