Joseph, known as Joe, was born on July 11th, 1853 in Correal.  Joe's father was James Moran and his mother was Bridget Carthy.  His paternal grandparents were Nicholas Moran and Anne (Kate) Curley. He had five brothers and two sisters, named Nick, Jimmie, Frank, George, Ned, Nannie and Mollie.  He was the oldest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 85 on April 11th, 1939.  He was buried at the Athleague old churchyard.
