Michael was born in 1853.  Michael's father was Thomas Cox and his mother was Jane Larkin.  His maternal grandparents were James Larkin and Mary Garvey. He had a brother and four sisters, named Patrick, Bridget, Mary, Bella and Ann.  He was the second oldest of the six children.
