Washington was born in 1822. Washington's father was Robert Shirley and his mother was Anne Weston. His paternal grandparents were Washington Shirley (8th Earl Ferrers) and Frances Ward. He was an only child. He died at the age of 37 in 1859.General Notes
Washington Sewallis Shirley, 9th Earl Ferrers was born on 3 January 1822
He succeeded to the title of 15th Baronet Shirley, of Staunton Harold [E., 1611] on 2 October 1842.1 He succeeded to the title of 9th Earl Ferrers [G.B., 1711] on 2 October 1842.1 He succeeded to the title of 9th Viscount Tamworth, of co. Stafford [G.B., 1711] on 2 October 1842.1
