Maud's father was Richard de Burgh (2nd Earl of Ulster) and her mother was Margaret ???. Her paternal grandparents were Walter de Burgh (1st Earl of Ulster) and Aveline FitzJohn FitzGeoffrey. She had a brother and a sister, named John and Elizabeth.General Notes
In 1308, Gilbert de Clare had married Maud (or Matilda) de Burgh, the daughter of Richard de Burgh, Earl of Ulster. The couple left no surviving issue, so his death marked the end of the great de Clare family.[6] The family lands were worth as much as £6,000, second only to those of the Earl of Lancaster among the nobility of the realm
