Winfried's father was Robert  Norbert  Januszowski and his mother is Anna Łucja Dudek.  His paternal grandparents are Jan Januszowski and Waleska Dudek; his maternal grandparents are Johan Dudek and Agnes Warwas. He had a brother and four sisters, named Reinhard, Gizela, Edeltraut, Ruth and Maria. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Alfred and Lidia.
