Thomas was born in 1882 in Bolton.1  Thomas' father was Thomas Walker and his mother was Sarah Mather.  His maternal grandparents were James Mather and Ann Riley. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Richard, James, Martha and Sarah.  He was the third oldest of the five known children.
