Edward was born in September 1878 in Great Lever and his baptism took place on September 15th, 1878 at St. Michael (Gt. Lever).1 2  Edward's father was Henry Unsworth and his mother was Alice Lomax.  His maternal grandparents were Benjamin Lomax and Alice Horridge. He had a brother and three sisters, named Benjamin, Annie, Ada and Bertha.  He was the oldest of the five children. He had two half-brothers named Frank and Harry.
