George's father was Thomas Timmis and his mother was Martha Woodcock.  His paternal grandparents were John Timmis and Mary Walley. He had four brothers and four sisters, named John, Thomas, William, Job, Elizabeth, Martha, Ellen and Sarah.  He was the third youngest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 64 in 1876 in Walgherton.²
