Ellen's father was Thomas Timmis and her mother was Martha Woodcock.  Her paternal grandparents were John Timmis and Mary Walley. She had five brothers and three sisters, named John, Thomas, William, Job, George, Elizabeth, Martha and Sarah.  She was the second youngest of the nine children.
