Ellen's father was John Ambrose Thomas and her mother was Margaret Eleanor Jones. She had three brothers and a sister, named John, Leslie, William and (Ann).  She was the youngest of the five children. She had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Albert and Lillian.  She died at the age of 56 in March 1960 in the Wirral.²
