Anthony's father was Anthony (Anthon) Stephenson and his mother was Mary Ann Bennett. His maternal grandparents were Cap John Bennett and Jane Roberts. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Ormus, Joseph, Jane, Catherine, Eva and Clara. He was the second oldest of the seven children.
