Michael's father was Thomas Pickles and his mother was Mary Walsh.  His maternal grandparents were Robert Walsh and Mary Bear. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Joseph, John, Thomas, William, Sarah, Isabel, Matty and Mary.  He was the second youngest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 50 in March 1840 in Bingley.  He was buried on March 26th, 1840 at All Saints (Bingley).³
