Charles was born in 1806 in West Derby and his baptism took place on January 18th, 1806 at St. Peter (Liverpool).1   Charles' father was Robert Mercer and his mother was Hanna Swift. He had a brother named Thomas.  He was the older of the two children.  He died before 1871 in West Derby.1
