John and Samuel's parents were both using Ridgway Gates Wesleyan Methodist Chapel. Samuel (baptised 24 April 1791) was the first and only child of James and Happy NOT to be baptised here.
Samuel's father was
James Mather and his mother was
Happy Lomax. His paternal grandparents were
Richard Mather and
Ann Howarth; his maternal grandparents were
James Lomax and
Mary Taylor. He had a brother and three sisters, named
James,
Maria,
Maria and
Nancy. He was the oldest of the five children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named
James and
Elizabeth. He died from a stroke, Apoplexy Certified, at the age of 63 on May 1st, 1854 at
4 Simpson Street. He was buried on May 2nd, 1854 at
Ridgway Gates Wesleyan.

The Death certificate of 1-May-1854 confirms this is the correct date. Samuel died at 4 Simpson St. of Apoplexy Certified. The Death was registered by Harry (i.e Happy, his daughter) Shuttleworth in Attendance, Rose Hill, Great Bolton.
Note: Apoplexy is an old-fashioned medical term, which can be used to mean a neurological impairment, haemorrhage or stroke.
Samuel died before the two Bolton cemeteries (Tonge and Heaton).opened so he must be buried in a churchyard, possibly the Parish church of St Peter’s. However, it seems odd that a space was not left for Alice, who was buried with her son George.
