The Marriage Banns confirm that Alice is from the Parish of St Peter, Bolton and already a Mather before she married Samuel.

Born about 1791 (age 50) according to 1841 census.
Born about 1791 (age 60), Turton, according to 1851 census.
Born about 1789 (age 72), Turton, according to 1861 census.
Born about 1789 (age 82), Turton, according to 1871 census.
Born about 1788 (age 91) in 1879, headstone and Death Cert.
It's therefore reasonable to assume Alice was born between 1787 and 1792. One record from Bolton or Turton is at Walmsley. See image for further details.

Another possibility is Alice, D of John and Nancy of G.B., bap 1786 or Alice from Westhaughton born 1785
Death Notes
By 1861 and 1871, Alice was a widow and living with her daughter, Happy and family. She died after 1871 census and before 1881, probably while she was living with her daughter, Happy Shuttleworth.

For the last 20+ years of her life she recorded her birth as about 3 years older (i.e. 1789, not 26-Mar-1792), so its not surprising that this age is also 3 or 4 years out.
Alice Mather died in Bolton on 16th November 1879 at 5 Nell Street, Bolton (she was living here with Phineas, Happy and Jesse Collins) and her certified cause of death was Natural Decay. Her death was registered by her son Samuel Mather who was in attendance at the death and who also lived in Nell Street (probably No. 9)
She is buried with her son George and his family. The headstone records her death as Nov 16th 1879.

General Notes
Alice appears to be born about 1788, although only Turton baptism is for 1792, so parents are unconfirmed..
9 Sep 1810, Alice MATHER, a spinster married James Mather at St Peter's, Bolton.
This is the only Alice found born in Bolton of similar age. She appears to have no (baptised) brothers or sisters, which is strange as she was born 13 years after her parents marriage (so could be wrong birth record or records lost, or a widow).
Could she be a widower, married before Samuel in 1810 (after 1804)? Cant be Alice Makinson that married Nathan Mather in 1809 or Alice Calderbank married Thomas Mather in 1805 as they had a long and fruitfull marriages. There are no other candidates for an Alice from Turton.
Alice, wife is present on 1841 and 1851 census with Samuel and family.
The 1851 census shows Samuel and Alice (both 60) at 4 Simpson Street, was from Turton. Her son George (21, a Collier), daughter Happy Barrow (married, 28, piecer) and grandaughter Maria Barrow (7) were living with them.
In 1871, Alice (82) was a boarder at 67 Blackbank Street, living with her daughter Happy and Phineas Shuttleworth and family. 3 doors away at No 73 was her son Samuel and Ann Mather. Between them at No 71 was James Cunliffe Hamer and his wife Happy Hamer. How is this other Happy person related?

From 1851 to after 1861 Alice's occupation was Winder in manufacturing for Cotton Mill, in Little Bolton.5
