Rachel was born in 1794 in Prestwich and her baptism took place there on July 10th, 1796.¹

Rachel's father was Richard Mather and her mother was Betty (Elizabeth) Barlow.  Her paternal grandparents were William Mather and Elizabeth (Betty) Ingram. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Hardy, James, John, William, Ellen, Sally and Martha.  She was the oldest of the eight children.  She died at the age of 6 in 1800 in Bury.  She was buried on January 4th, 1800 in Prestwich.²
