John was born in December 1747 in Halliwell and his baptism took place on December 5th, 1754 at St. Mary (Deane).1  John's father was John Mather and his mother was Mary Meadowcroft. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Richard, John, Jeffery, Lettice, Mary, Alice and Martha. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Jeffery and Betty.  He died at the age of 3 in August 1751 in Deane.  His burial was on August 6th, 1751.2
