Jane's father was Robert Mather and her mother was Ellen Croft.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Jane (Jenny) Fish. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, Robert, Hannah and Mary.  She was the oldest of the five known children.  She died at 7 months old in January 1842 in Turton.  She was buried on January 25th, 1842 at Christ Church, Walmsley.²
