Hannah's father was John Mather and her mother was Alice Taylor. Her paternal grandparents were Jeremiah (Jeremy) Mather and Alice Lord. She had a brother and a sister, named Walter and Emma. She was the second oldest of the three children. She died at the age of 1 in January 1882 in Breightmet.²
