George's father was John Mather and his mother was Elizabeth Bostock.  His paternal grandparents were John Mather and <unknown>. He had a sister named Sarah.  He was the younger of the two children. He had two half-brothers and two half-sisters, named William, William, William and Mary.  He died at 3 months old in December 1851 in Bury.²
