Florence's father was Isaac Mather and her mother was Amelia Beever. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Mary Ann (Martha) Jane Bolton. She had three brothers and a sister, named Ernest, Thomas, Fred and Lizzie. She was the oldest of the five children.

- 9 Aug 1902, Ashton Seddon (25), a copper polisher, son of John Seddon married Florence Mather (23), daughter of Isaac Mather a Steel Spting Maker at Holdombe Emmanuel.
  
  In 1911 Ashton and Florence (34 & 32) were at Ramsbottom with John (5) and Edith (2).
