Elizabeth was born in January 1839 in Hindley.1  Elizabeth's father was William Mather and her mother was Martha Barlow. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Richard, Thomas, William, John, Mary, Sarah and Jane.  She was the second youngest of the eight children.  She died at the age of 50 on August 18th, 1889 in Wigan.2
