Elinor was born in March 1861 in Bury.1  Elinor's father was Edwin Mather and her mother was Jane Ann Barlow.  Her paternal grandparents were Robert Mather and Grace Wood. She had a brother and a sister, named Joseph and Emma.  She was the second oldest of the three known children.
