Betty was born on March 23rd, 1779 in Walton-le-Dale and her baptism took place there on April 4th, 1779.1  Betty's father was Joshua Mather and her mother was Margaret Fielden. She had five brothers and four sisters, named John, Joshua, Thomas, Joshua, John, Mary, Sarah, Hannah and Margaret.  She was the nineth oldest of the ten children.
