Alice was born in September 1843 in Bolton.1  Alice's father was John Horrocks and her mother was Esther Crook.  Her maternal grandparents were Christopher Crook and Margaret Donovan. She had two sisters named Ellen and Margaret.  She was the oldest of the three children.
