Mary's father was John Holt and her mother was Sarah Halliwell.  Her paternal grandparents were George Holt and Betty Bentley. She had a brother and two sisters, named John, Ellen and Esther.  She was the second youngest of the four known children.  She died at the age of 51 in October 1889 in Bolton.
