Fred was born on June 18th, 1898 in Darcy Lever.1  Fred's father was Joseph Haslam and his mother was Mary Alice Barlow.  His maternal grandparents were John Nelson Barlow and Alice Hardman. He had five brothers and a sister, named Elizabeth, John, James, Walter, Joseph and Edith.  He was the fourth oldest of the seven children.
