Arthur's father was George Eddowes and his mother was Mary Jones. His paternal grandparents were John Eddowes and Mary Whitfield. He had three brothers and two sisters, named George, John, Edwin, Elizabeth and Emma. He was the fifth oldest of the six children. He died at the age of 6 in December 1871 in Wrexham.²
