Hannah was born in March 1853 in Rawtenstall.1  Hannah's father was John Cunliffe and her mother was Jane Hargreaves.  Her paternal grandparents were George Cunliffe and Bathsheba Cunliffe. She had three sisters named Elizabeth, Bathsheba and Sarah.  She was the oldest of the four known children.
