Betty was born in December 1747 in Uppermill and her baptism took place on December 25th, 1747 at St. Chad (Saddleworth).1  Betty's father was James Buckley Snr and her mother was Elisabeth (Betty) Cresswell. She had five brothers and two sisters, named John, James, Joseph, John, William, Hannah and Anne.  She was the oldest of the eight children.
