Edward was born in 1840 in Tugford and his christening took place on April 15th, 1840 at St. Catherine (Tugford).1 2  Edward's father was William Brown and his mother was Mary. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Charles, Thomas, Edwin, Rachael, Eliza, Sarah and Emma.  He was the fifth oldest of the eight known children.
