Thomas' father was Richard Booth and his mother was Catherine Whalley.  His paternal grandparents were Edward Booth and Betty Chadwick. He had three brothers and six sisters, named Richard, Adam, Adam, Alice, Alice, Elizabeth, Peggy, Jane and Ellen.  He was the oldest of the ten children.
