John's born before Charles and Emma are married, so may be of different parent or parents, possibly George Batho and Mary for which there is a christening record in Malpas, 1852.
In 1871, John (age 19) has left home and is working as a servant in Staffordshire. He remained in Staffordshire and by 1881 and 1891 he is married to Elizabeth, with children Mary, Charles, Florence, Edith, Frederick, Richard and George.
