Sy Alwi's father was Sy Abd Rahman (Idrus) and his mother is Sh Ratna.  His paternal grandfather was Sy Ali.  He had three brothers and five sisters, named Sy Majid, Sy Ismaon, Tan, Sh Lin, Sh Kelah, Sh Zamrud, Sh Tik and Sh Rabiah.  He had five half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Sy Mustamam, Sy Jamal, Sy Aidid, Sy Syamsul, Sy Lokman, Sh Bee, Sh Fatimah, Sh Faridah and Sh Maheran.  Sy Alwi is no longer alive.
